Path of Building

Find all our recommended gear from the comfort of Path of Building, available here.

Included in the Path of Building are skill trees, all gem links and possible variations, and an example set of mid-level gear with room for upgrades. For simplicity’s sake, Elemental Resistances are not included on gear, and you can fill them in as you like depending on available gear.

We use the Path of Building Community Fork for all of our builds, which is highly recommended. If you are encountering errors importing the build, please ensure you are using the Community Fork.

Gear Summary / TL;DR

These items strike a balance between power and cost-effectiveness.

Our recommendation:

Item Slot Item Name
Head Rare Royal Burgonet Royal Burgonet or Eternal Burgonet Eternal Burgonet (with +2 Projectiles enchantment)
Amulet Xoph's Blood Xoph's Blood
Chest Loreweave Loreweave
Gloves Rare Gripped Gloves Gripped Gloves
Boots Kaom's Roots Kaom's Roots
Belt Rare Stygian Vise Stygian Vise
Rings 2x ###item:kaoms-way###
Weapon 2x Nebuloch Nebuloch

This build utilizes cluster jewels and is also heavily reliant on standard jewels to scale damage, so it is highly recommended you thoroughly read the Gear, Jewels, and Flasks section.

Gear

Armour

Helmet

A rare Armour based helmet — preferably a Royal Burgonet Royal Burgonet or Eternal Burgonet Eternal Burgonet — rolled using Pristine Fossil Pristine Fossil and Scorched Fossil Scorched Fossil fossils will be best in slot for the build. Prioritize affixes as follows:

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistances
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. Nearby Enemies have -#% to Fire Resistance
  4. +# to Armour

Recommended Labyrinth Enchantment:

This enchantment is very powerful for this build and worth acquiring as early as possible. One of the cheapest ways of acquiring it is simply to purchase a white base and then craft it yourself, as this is not particularly difficult or expensive to do.

Body Armour

Unique options:

  • Loreweave Loreweave: The best possible option for this build, including Rares. Always get the 78% Maximum Resistance, and prioritize a high % Increased Elemental Damage roll.
  • Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast: A passable budget option, and useful for Solo Self-Found as it is fairly easy to obtain.

A strong Rare can also be a contender in the early and mid-game. An Astral Plate Astral Plate is the recommended base. Prioritize affixes as follows:

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistances
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % Increased Maximum Life (Elder / Hunter)
  4. % Increased Armour

Gloves

A nice pair of Rare Gripped Gloves Gripped Gloves is ideal due to the defensive stats and damage it provides. You can get both the Hunter and Warlord mod together via a nice Awakener's Orb Awakener's Orb craft, but it can be very expensive.

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistance
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % increased Attack Speed
  4. Strike Skills Target 1 Additional Nearby Enemy (Hunter)
  5. Culling Strike (Warlord)
  6. % Increased Damage while Leeching (Crafted)

Boots

Kaom's Roots Kaom's Roots are best in slot, and are relatively inexpensive to obtain, even early in the league. When you have some spare currency to splash out, you should invest in a Corrupted version with an additional maximum Endurance charge.

Weapons

This build is build around the concept of using dual-wield Nebuloch Nebuloch.

  • Nebuloch Nebuloch: Best in slot for the build, offering massive damage output and great defenses via Elemental Damage reduction, Armour, and Chaos Resistance. Despite the degeneration effect, this build has ample regeneration and leech to compensate. If you cannot sustain twin Nebuloch Nebuloch degeneration in the very early mapping stage it is also acceptable to use a single one until you have twin ###item:kaoms-way### rings.
  • Brutus' Lead Sprinkler Brutus' Lead Sprinkler is a great early option, very cheap, and easily obtainable on Solo Self-Found.
  • Grelwood Shank Grelwood Shank is another budget option that can be used early on.

Accessories

Amulet

Xoph's Blood Xoph's Blood is the default choice, saving us valuable skill points and providing excellent damage in addition to its potent “covered in Ash” effect. Prior to its acquisition, you can also use a Rare amulet to great effect. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistances
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills
  4. Gain % of Physical Damage as Extra Fire Damage (Elder or Warlord)
  5. % Increased Attack Speed
  6. Damage Penetrates % Fire Resistance (Warlord)
  7. % Increased Fire Damage
  8. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks

Rings

Twin ###item:kaoms-way### rings should be used for the extra Endurance Charges and to counteract the degeneration effect applied by your Nebuloch Nebulochs. Prior to their acquisition you should use Rare rings with good defenses.

Belt

A well rolled Stygian Vise Stygian Vise is the best option. Prioritize affixes as follows:

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistances
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % Increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills
  4. % Increased Fire Damage (Scorched Fossil Scorched Fossil)
  5. % Increased Elemental Damage (Prismatic Fossil Prismatic Fossil)
  6. % Increased Damage (Crafted)

Jewels

This build uses quite a few Unique items; you can rely on having your utility flasks up as well as having all your Endurance charges, though this is not infallible. If your Rare items do not have enough Resistance to fully cover your 78% cap, you can also aim for some Resistance on Jewels to help out.

Cluster Jewels

This build uses three Large Cluster Jewels in order to improve the build and address some deficiencies with elegant solutions. We are looking for Jewels with the small passive:

  • Mace or Staff Attacks deal 12% Increased Damage with Hits and Ailments

As mentioned in the Passive Skill Tree section, we do not have enough surplus points to take three notables in each of the three Cluster Jewels. This allows you a bit of freedom and might make your Jewels a bit cheaper, as you do not need a perfect trifecta of notables for each Jewel.

Cluster Jewel

One thing to note, however, is that each Cluster Jewel should have 2 Jewel Sockets. We will place normal Jewels in these sockets, allowing our build to further scale.

Aim for one of each of these notables:

  • Overlord — permanent Fortify Support Fortify Support
  • Devastator — improves clear
  • Feed the Fury (Drive the Destruction is also acceptable, but less damage) — life leech and damage
  • Fuel the Fight — Mana leech and attack speed

After you have each of those notables, stack the Weight Reduction notable as much as possible for maximum DPS.

The other available notables are not worth using under any circumstances.

Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye

Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with Vitality Vitality mods is an extremely powerful late-game acquisition that pushes this build from hard to kill to near-immortal. All of the mods are quite strong, but the Life Gain on Hit mod is the most powerful due to our extremely high attack speed and high number of projectiles. Even on a single target this will generally allow you to straight up out heal any and all damage providing it isn’t an immediate one shot. This investment is optional, but you will feel the difference when tackling the hardest content in the game.

Regular Jewels

Don’t forget that using Jewels to help cap your Elemental Resistances can be very helpful before having ideal Rare gear pieces. Late-game, you will want one Jewel with the Corrupted Blood cannot be inflicted on you implicit corruption.

  1. % Increased Maximum Life
  2. % increased Attack Speed with Maces or Sceptres
  3. % increased Attack Speed while Dual Wielding
  4. % Increased Attack Speed

Any other damage modifiers are fine while working your way to ideal Jewels, but Attack Speed is king for this build.

Abyssal Jewel Affix Priority

  1. Maximum Life (at least 35)
  2. % chance to Blind Enemies on Hit with Attacks
  3. % increased Attack Speed if you’ve dealt a Critical Strike Recently
  4. % Increased Attack Speed
  5. Damage Penetrates 1% Fire Resistance
  6. Adds # to # Fire Damage to Mace Attacks
  7. Adds # to # Fire Damage to Attacks

Flasks

The Wise Oak The Wise Oak will allow you to penetrate enemies’ fire resistance, make sure your fire resistance is highest in order to achieve this.

  1. Cinderswallow Urn Cinderswallow Urn (with increased Critical Strike veiled mod)
  2. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak
  3. Bottled Faith Bottled Faith
  4. Dying Sun Dying Sun
  5. Chemist’s Basalt Flask Basalt Flask of Warding

Utility flasks are perfectly fine substitutes in place of these Uniques, as they can be very expensive. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak and Dying Sun Dying Sun are the most important acquisitions, and any variant of Cinderswallow Urn Cinderswallow Urn can be used early on.

  • Furty has taken over the build. Complete overhaul from the ground up; considerable improvements to damage and defense. 3.12-ready.

  • Revisited and updated for Harvest 3.11. The build lost some power due to nerf to dual wield but this is easily mitigated by the addition of strong Warcries.

  • Revisited and updated for Delirium 3.10. The build remains a very solid choice for those who like the more durable characters.

  • Revisited and updated for Metamorph 3.9. The build gets a slight buff via changes to Molten Strike and a nerf via changes to Point Blank. Overall it is still a very solid build.

  • Revisited and updated for Blight 3.8. It is worth mentioning that the build has extreme damage potential and is one of the tankiest in the game, but it might feel clumsy to some due to the fact it does not reach vast amounts of attack speed like other builds do.

  • Revisited the whole build guide and updated Passive trees and Gem sections for Legion 3.7.

  • Updated passive trees.

  • Revisited and updated for Synthesis 3.6.
